Qatari Emir and Trump announce historic U.S. trade partnership reaching $1.2T

Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani announced a record-setting trade partnership with the United States that will exceed $1 trillion while speaking alongside President Donald Trump at the G7 Summit in France.
“We are very, very proud and happy with this relationship,” the emir said on Tuesday. Looking to President Trump, he added, “Once again, thank you very much for your leadership.”
Trump thanked Sheikh Tamim and continued, “Qatar is going to be investing much more than a trillion dollars in the United States. … You know, we set a record. There’s never been anything like it. No country in history has had that kind of investment.”
Trump said that the actual amount Qatar plans to invest could be as much as $19.4 trillion, whereas the record was closer to $3 trillion invested from another country a decade ago.
“This is a very important deal, there’s still a lot of work to be done, but with this momentum — if we continue like that, Mr. president — I think we can achieve and do great things in the region,” Sheikh Tamim added, noting that Doha Is ready to assist “whenever friends ask us to help.”
The two leaders reminisced over a previous meeting that allowed them to “rekindle” their relationship, likely referring to Trump’s Middle East trip in May 2025, where they announced major economic agreements between their two countries.
“We’ve been friends for a long time,” Trump said.
The deal is reportedly set to be signed in Switzerland on Friday.
During his meeting with the Qatari Emir, Trump also asserted that under the terms of the newly announced framework agreement, Tehran would face “the ultimate consequences” and that “all hell will rain down” if it attempts to acquire a nuclear weapon. Trump noted that he personally mandated the inclusion of strict language prohibiting Iran from purchasing or buying a weapon from outside entities, closing a potential loophole in standard non-proliferation text.
